Have been settling in to our life in Dakar and gradually getting into the groove. Helps to find our patience, walk a little slower under the sun, enjoy the good times surrounding all the good meals, and stay out until 3 am to dance to live Senegalese salsa.

I would like you to thank Nana and Hady for helping take care of Aiza and David. They remind me of my own babysitter in Burnt Prairie, whose name was Valeda, and she was Louis and Red and Charlie Savage's sister. I would like to hear more about what they are doing in the village and in school and what they plan to do going forward. After graduating from high school, Valeda left Burnt Prairie to marry Ben White, and they raised two kids. The last time I visited them they were managing a lumber yard in Fairbury, Illinois, and helping people build homes there, including log homes. Valeda was also working as a credit manager at a local furniture store, making sure people paid their credit accounts on their purchases of new furniture. I believe now they have retired and are living in Florida, though I have not been to see them there.

Nana and Khady Ndione are Aiza's cousins. Nana is Ngone's oldest brother Abdou's oldest daughter. Khady is Ngone's oldest sister Aissatou's 2nd daughter. They are going to school near Boukhou and living with Ngone's mother. They wake up to do household chores before going to school and help cook lunch when they come back from school. They help watch the kids when we visit, as do Ngone's sisters and brothers, mother, and aunts. Mostly though Kathleen runs around playing with the young girls, and David alternates between being held looking around smiling and being on his mother's lap eating. Nana lived with us for 3 months back when we were living in Kayes. We attended a baptism in Nana's mother's village this past weekend. I will post some pictures of that soon.
